Bob Mellor was the featured artist during our September 2010 show.
Hans Hoffman said: "The creative process lies not in imitation but in paralleling nature - translating the impulse received from nature into the medium of expression, thus vitalizing this medium. The picture should be alive, the statue should be alive and every work of art should be alive." My approach to painting tries to accomplish this. My ultimate goal is similar to what Vincent van Gogh mentioned to his brother Theo in a letter: "Oh! Someday I must manage to do a figure in a few strokes.
I was born in Denver, Colorado, on August 9,1937. My parents were living in a cabin my dad built in Moon Gulch near Rollinsville, CO, while he was working the family gold mine (that turned out not to be one).
Dad got a job in Wichita, KS, in 1938 at Stearman Aircraft (later Boeing) where I grew up - also in Hutchinson, KS. I graduated from Hutchinson H.S, in 1955, Hutchinson Jr. College in 1957 (pre-architecture/engineering), and the University of Kansas (commercial art) in 1961. I joined the Boeing Co. in Wichita and in Seattle, Washington, where I painted full-time for three and one half years.
